The Novel

“I watched him walk away.  I watched him enter the building.  I watched as he paused, dropped his head then, raised it back up again.  I watched as he turned back slowly, made two steps then stopped.  I watched him watch me, as if he had one last thing to say—something I needed to hear—something I had to hear.  But then I watched him sigh, raise his hand and wave goodbye.

I turned my head and told the driver to leave.  He would not have my heart and my tears.”

Maybe you've been there before, searching, waiting. Praying, that one day that someone that's been promised to all of us will appear and, as the song suggests: knock you off your feet.

Maybe you, like Jared Covington, have been waiting far too long, and you've begun to lose hope, sight, of what you've really been waiting for, searching for. Maybe your paradise, the one you fantasize about day and night, night and day, is just that, a fantasy.

But, what if one day when you least expect it, you find that love—that light—that feeling of completion that has eluded you for so long—what if, love answers? Will you be ready?

I'm on My Way is a passionate tale of a sometimes bitter, sometimes angry, but always hopeful young man and his search to uncover the love of his life and in the process, himself.

In this powerful first novel, Christopher David shows us how dangerous love can be when mixed with extraordinary doubt, desperation and a longing to be accepted.

critical acclaim

A new and important voice has just arrived! "I'm On My Way" is more than just a good book. It is more than just a very good book. In fact, it is even more than an excellent book. Beyond a must-read, or a highly recommended read; it deserves to be a MANATORY read. Why? Because, "I'm On My Way" is, in many ways, a necessary manual to Love, how to love, and more importantly, how NOT to love.

David’s characters, many as they are, are all very real, touching, hilarious, and sometimes even as tragic as New York City itself. You will find yourself rooting for them, praying and getting mad at them, just as you would with real friends.

I am so very proud that a Gay Black Man penned this book. I am even prouder that the lessons (contained when its novel form) are not strictly gay, Black or male lessons; but human ones. This book has passages of pure literary genius. Not only can this man write, he can make you FEEL. This novel made me smile, and it broke my heart. I am personally in awe of Christopher’s talent, his manhood, his bravery—and trust—I am not easily impressed by much of anything or anyone anymore. Ya heard?

In my humble opinion, Christopher David is indeed, On His Way! The day I completed “I’m On My Way” was the day I personally became an ardent admirer of his rare and shining gift. Read this book, people! Read it and be MOVED from your soul outward.

Friend and Author Christopher David is refreshing and pure. His work is untampered and innocent of judgement or conviction.  It is rare that you come across a great writer with a great piece of work. "I'm On My Way" delivers a message to not only the human soul, but the world's soul. One cannot leave this literary work without feeling moved or inspired to reach out and love someone, or to begin to let love work in your life.  This book was written for our healing, a community who have longed for truth, love and the simple joys of happiness, and we finally have it with "I'm On My Way".  Bravo Chrisopher David!  Bravo!

"I'm On My Way" was so stunning that I was turning pages at rapid-fire speed. I felt the characters.  They were US! I picked up the book and couldn't put it down, until the end, with a climax that was so powerful, so WOW...that I threw the book across the room. I don't want to blow it for anyone, but READ THIS BOOK!  It is powerful and poignant and a perfect read.

------------------

Christopher David in "I'm On My Way" has written a first novel that demands respect and attention. Rarely has a young writer pounced on the scene with such a pungent, searing understanding and commitment in writing a book about a slice of lice that has for years been no man's land. Other African-American writers have addressed gay life in their community, but as far as placing the reader deeply within the milieu, the language, the special struggles that surround the gay black man, Christopher David has the edge.

------------------

Author Christopher David audaciously demonstrates that relationships are never easy. His three-dimensional characters jump off the page and become men readers can listen to, feel, and empathize with. His writing style is poetry in motion, flowing like old school hip-hop; it's easy to quickly get caught up in the characters' thought processes and emotions. David unflinchingly strips away stereotypes and exposes readers to the real world of living and loving as a gay man. He shows us that whether we're dating men or women, the drama is the same...we are all people looking to love and be loved in return.

I'm on My Way: The Story Behind the Story

I want to share something I've never really said out loud before. Not fully, and not like this.I published my novel I'm on My Way in 2003. I was thirty years old. I started writing it at twenty-seven from one of the loneliest places ...
