how i work

Christopher David is lifestyle personified. He specializes in visual works and artistry that excite the senses and soothe the mind. His goal is to help individuals bring their timeless, innovative, photographic visions to life.

With over a decade of professional experience, Christopher has developed a style that is simple, sophisticated, and organic—one that draws equally from the photojournalistic spirit of editorial photography and the expressive energy of fashion. The result is an approach that is distinctly his own.

Based in New York City, his greatest gift is people. Christopher works with a diverse range of clients—individuals, families, corporate professionals, and creatives—approaching every shoot as a carefully planned collaboration. He takes great care in knowing those who step in front of his lens, and his deepest satisfaction comes from revealing to clients what he sees through the camera—perhaps something they always knew about themselves, but had never quite seen.

Honed through years of professional practice and continued industry study, Christopher's craft is as technically precise as it is emotionally intuitive. Every shoot is a carefully planned collaboration designed to put clients at ease, elevate every frame, and deliver results that endure.

Great portraits don't just happen. For Christopher, they are carefully planned creations. That is not simply a philosophy of his work, it is a promise.

simple. sophisticated. visual art.

Working with me is a collaborative experience built on preparation, trust, and a shared vision. Long before your first photograph is taken, I'm already putting things in place to ensure a successful, stress-free shoot. From helping you coordinate your wardrobe to guiding your expressions and poses on the day, every detail is thoughtfully considered so that together we can create photographs that are as timeless as they are uniquely you.

frequently asked questions

01

What is your photographic style?

Simple, sophisticated, and organic. I'm drawn to the quiet nuances that give depth to everyday life—and intentional about letting those details live within each image.

Portraiture is at the core of what I do, though I move fluidly between editorial and fashion as well. The photojournalistic honesty of editorial and the lifestyle sensibility of fashion both shape my approach—and together they give my work a quality that feels at once candid and considered.

02

Why should I choose to work with you?

Because the goal was never just a great photo.

What drives me is what lives within and just beyond the frame—the personality, the quiet truth of a person that often goes unseen, even by themselves. Every session is an act of care. Of looking closely, and reporting back honestly.

There's something that happens when someone sees themselves the way I see them. That moment of recognition—sometimes introduction, sometimes reintroduction—is what I'm really after.

If that's what you're looking for, we're probably a good fit.

03

When and where do you shoot?

Sessions take place on Saturdays and Sundays, in my home studio or out in the world—whichever suits you best.

For shoots within NYC, there are no additional location fees, though applicable tolls and parking are passed along. Destination shoots outside the city include mileage in addition to those costs.

04

Will I get printed photographs or digital files?

Both. The experience doesn't have to end at the screen.

High-resolution digital files are available, as are professional prints, custom softcover and hardcover albums, slideshows, holiday cards, and wall art — each a different way of living with the work long after the session is done.

05

How much do you charge?

It depends on what you're looking for—and there's something designed for most every need.

The Profile Session is a focused 30-minute session with 5 retouched images, starting at $175. The Portrait Session offers a fuller 90-minute experience with 10 images at $350. Specialty sessions include The Threshold for maternity ($375) and The Bond for families ($400). For something entirely your own, The Bespoke is a fully custom experience starting at $600.

Every session begins with a conversation. The best way to find the right fit is to choose a preferred package through the website—and we'll take it from there.

06

What is your retainer fee?

Most sessions are paid in full at the time of booking—it's the simplest way to secure your date and get the process started.

The Bespoke, given its custom nature, begins with a planning deposit of $200 to get things underway.

07

How long after the session will I receive my photographs?

Within 15 business days of your session, you'll receive an email with access to your proofs and instructions for making your selections. From there, you'll have 10 days to review and choose your final images.

Once selections are made, please allow an additional 15 business days for retouching and delivery of your digital files. Timelines for prints and other tangible goods vary and will be communicated at the time of order.

08

How long will a typical session last?

It depends on the session. The Profile Session runs 30 minutes, while the Portrait Session, The Threshold, and The Bond range from 70 to 90 minutes. The Bespoke is tailored entirely to your vision, so the timeline is built around you.

If wardrobe changes or travel between locations extend things beyond the scheduled time, additional fees will apply—something worth keeping in mind when planning your session.

09

Can I produce my own prints?

Yes. Digital files are delivered with a personal print release, meaning you're free to print for personal use wherever you choose.

That said, Christopher David offers professional prints, albums, and wall art ordered directly through the studio—and the difference in quality is worth considering. For anything intended to live on a wall or last a lifetime, it's the better investment.

10

Do you shoot weddings or events?

Weddings and events are beautiful occasions—but they're not where my work lives best. The pace and unpredictability of those settings don't lend themselves to the intentional, intimate approach that defines what I do.

That said, engagement sessions and couples portraits are absolutely within scope — and often produce some of the most meaningful work. If that's what you're looking for, let's talk.

11

What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?

All sessions are paid in full at booking, and payments are non-refundable. That said, life happens—and if something comes up, I ask for at least 72 hours notice. With that notice, your payment becomes a credit toward a future session.

Each booking includes one complimentary reschedule with 72 hours notice. A second reschedule will require a new booking fee.

For outdoor sessions, weather is always a wildcard. If conditions make the shoot impossible, we'll find another date—no penalty, no stress.

And if I ever need to reschedule on my end, you'll have the choice of a full credit or a complete refund. No questions asked.

12

What if I'm uncomfortable in front of the camera?

Most people are—and that's exactly why every session begins with a conversation.

Before we shoot, we sit down together. We talk through your goals, your concerns, what you're hoping to walk away with. I use that time to connect—to understand you, and to make sure you feel at ease with me and the process before the camera ever comes out.

You'll also receive a guide Before We Meet after booking—a resource designed to help you arrive feeling prepared, confident, and ready.

By the time we shoot, you've already done the hardest part.
